The Bar of Ireland is the representative body for the barrister profession in Ireland.
Its role is to:

•consider, report upon and make representations as it considers necessary in all matters affecting the profession;
•play a key role in the conduct and arrangement of the business of the profession;
•control and regulate the professional conduct of members of the Law Library; and,
•secure and protect the interests of the profession.

The Council of The Bar of Ireland is the governing committee of The Bar of Ireland, elected annually by members of the Law Library.

The vast majority of practising barristers become members of the Law Library, a collective structure overseen and managed by the Council, which facilitates the sharing of knowledge, experience and administrative resources. Facilities are located both in and in the vicinity of the Four Courts, Dublin, the Criminal Courts of Justice, Dublin, and the Courthouse in Cork, and the Law Library is a bustling hive of activity from which barristers’ work.
